About the Speaker: Brett L. Ward, CFI, is Vice President of Business Development and Client Relations, is a renowned instructor for Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates, Inc. (WZ), who has led over 900 seminars on Interview & Interrogation Techniques for private, law enforcement and government entities. Mr. Ward, also a consultant for WZ has conducted hundreds of investigations throughout his career with WZ for both the public and private sectors. Since employed with WZ in 1998, Mr. Ward has been a frequently requested speaker at several national organizations' annual meetings including the National Retail Federation (NRF), American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), Eye for Retail – Europe, and multiple Labor & Employment Conferences - HR (SHRM). Mr. Ward has extensive training in the government sector including such clients as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS), and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) where courses were taught at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia.


Beginning his career with Wicklander-Zulawski & Associates, Inc. in April 1998, Brett frequently consulted and instructed within the Public Division where he taught Field Interviewing, Criminal Interview & Interrogation, and Advanced Investigative Interviewing Strategies to over 200 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. He currently runs the Private Division for WZ, a responsibility including 240+ clients and 150+ contractual and open registration programs annually.


Brett graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and received a BS degree in Finance - Business Administration, and currently lives in Houston, Texas, with wife Nancy.


Brett is a Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI). To qualify for this distinction, a person must pass a standardized examination, which covers a series of topics regarding the interviewing and interrogation process. The CFI demonstrates understanding of legal aspects of interviewing and proficiency in interview preparation, behavioral, analysis, accusatory and non-accusatory interviewing, documentation, and presentation of findings. The objective of this certification program is to create comprehensive, universally accepted professional standards combined with an objective measure of an interviewer’s knowledge of those standards.
