ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mike Garner, CIA, CFE

Mr. Garner graduated from Baylor University, Waco in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. In 2002 he received his Master of Science Degree in Quality Systems Management (MS-QSM) from the National Graduate School where he earned the Distinguished Graduate Award. He has 38 years of auditing experience with five different state agencies in Texas.

Mr. Garner has been an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Austin Chapter for over 25 years. He received the Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award in 1997 and again in 2002.

Mr. Garner is also involved in a number of professional organizations including the Institute of Internal Auditors where he has been a member for over 30 years, worked on the local board for many years and was Chapter President during the 1989-90 Chapter Year. Additional professional organizations include the State Agency Internal Audit Forum where he was a member of the Peer Review Committee for eleven years, chaired the committee for the first four years, and has personally conducted thirteen External Quality Assurance Reviews; and was a Lead Examiner with the Greater Austin Quality Council for four years.
