The presentation will take attendees through a financial crime investigation involving the alleged theft and/or misappropriation of public funds by an elected official. Evidence presented as a defense by the subject will be presented. We will discuss the examination of that evidence and how the results changed the investigation’s course and subsequent prosecution.
At the State Auditor’s Office, Robert oversees a team of professionals operating a statewide fraud hotline and carrying out financial crime investigations. Robert’s experience with fraud examinations began in 1994 and includes the Texas A&M University System Internal Audit Department, public accounting firms offering specialty forensic accounting services, and the United States Secret Service Financial Crimes Division. Robert is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Robert holds degrees in Accounting and Criminal Justice.

Review applicable ACFE Codes of Professional Ethics and Standards
Develop predication or probable cause for electronic evidence
Gain an understanding of the investigation function of the State Auditor’s Office
